Tricks & Treats

October 29, 2008 by Marielle · Leave a Comment

Halloween is a celebration we pre-eminently expose our children to horrible, scary creatures, stories and games. And they love it!

Reason enough for us to create the Mostly Ghostly Creepy Collection ever!

Magic, light, fun, excitement and games are still the main ingredients of this family holiday. Get a taste of Halloween fun. Of sneaking cats and fluttering bats. Of haunted houses, grinny ghosts, boogie bones and wicked witches. Get a taste of the Happy Halloween Collection and get tricked…and treated!

For Wanna be Fairies

Dress like a fairy, fly like a fairy, play like a fairy, walk like fairy, talk like fairy, become a fairy! It’s all within reach of every ‘Wanna be Fairy’, with this brand new, pink and shiny Collection: Become a Fairy.

Fairies have wide-ranging appeal among children, who still believe in magic and are able to see, hear fairies and play with them. And lucky for you this enchanted flowered Fairy World or Pixie Hollow is not that far away as it may seem. Glubble collected a wide range of magical Web sites where children can discover the true Fairy Realm and become a fairy themselves. From making a magic wand, wings and other necessary fairy accessories to fairy games, fairy recipes and fairy flying training. It’s all there. All you have to do is believe (and take a look).

The Fairies & Halloween Collections are published in the Glubble Library which can be accessed through the Family Page.

Ask Linsey: Question from Karen (Dallas)

October 29, 2008 by Linsey · Leave a Comment

This week Karen from Dallas, Texas, asks: My son is still very young, but shows an interest in wanting to use the Internet. How do I know if he’s “ready” to start using the Internet… and how do I make it a better experience for him?

Great question, Karen and one that many parents are asking themselves in this modern age! Kids as young as 3 are showing a genuine interest in using the internet.  Maybe it is because they see Mom and Dad using the internet.

October 28, 2008 by Bartel · 4 Comments

We have just released an important update to Glubble for Families. We have added new functionality that allows parents to manage what web sites children can have access to.

Improvements and new functionality for the Glubble Collections Library

The interface for managing Glubble Collections has become simpler. You already had the ability to activate or de-active an entire collection in one click. However, if you want more flexibility we have implemented controls that allow you to activate or de-activate collections per child. You can access these controls by clicking on a Glubble Collection and viewing the content inside the Collection. You will now see icons for you children there and simple controls to activate or de-activate this collection per child (see image below).

Election 2008 Play Art Dolls

October 23, 2008 by Bartel · Leave a Comment

Glubble users who have installed our latest version already have seen and likely played with our Gotcha’s – little paper dolls that you print, fold and play with. Each of these Gotcha’s we design ourselves and most of them represent fantasy figures. Too me these Gotcha’s are a real treat. Creating them, and playing with them just nourishes the ‘playful child’ in me.

We’ve been preparing the concept, story lines, characters and structure for some weeks now – we will even launch a special Gotcha web site very soon – and created a variety of different sets. Most of the Gotcha’s will be uploaded to the Gotcha section of Glubble’s Kids page so you can all enjoy them. Some of them we make on special requests – if you’re a designer you know how this works ;-) – and some we make cause we think its just funny. Perhaps we decide to release all of these one day to complete your collection of Gotcha’s.

One of these special sets we created is the “Election 2008″ which contains Barack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, the 4 presidential candidates. I’ve been a little reluctant to release these 4 Gotcha characters. Not that I don’t like them, or that we made fun of the characters. We didn’t, we’ve treated all 4 candidates with equal respect and tried to capture some of their outstanding features. My concern is more based on the fact that I’m very cautious with pushing politics to very young children. I mean I’ve seen companies that offer products for the very young polling their users about the Elections. Of course there’s no harm in getting young children involved and educate them. But polling is marketing imo. That has nothing to do with getting involved or education. And it makes you wonder what else they have in mind for our youngest.

Anyway, after discussing these issues with several people I decided to release them. (Thanks to all who pointed out to me that our ‘Election 2008″ characters are just fun and don’t push anything.) I won’t upload them to our Kids pages yet, but you can download them here.

If you like to share your thoughts with me and think there is no harm involved releasing them to our kids page please do so.

Meantime enjoy this limited set. Tip: print your favorite on a larger sized paper so it will stand out ;-)

Get more involved with your children’s online experience—and encourage other parents to do the same!

October 16, 2008 by Alexander · 1 Comment

One thing that we all have in common is that we’re working to understand how to best introduce our kids to all the Web has to offer them while at the same time keeping them safe when they’re online. After all, parents play a critical role in getting involved—and staying involved—with their kids’ online experience. That’s why Glubble has partnered with Highlights Magazine, the much-loved magazine for young kids, on a survey exploring parental involvement in their young children’s online activities.

Can you help us by taking our survey and encouraging other parents to do the same? Taking all of 5 minutes, the survey’s results will be published and shared with you in early November. Here’s wishing you and your family many hours of fun and safe online play!

To access the survey, please go here–and please encourage others to do the same (thank you).
